The Role

Binnies, part of the RSK Group, is looking for a motivated and talented Graduate Civil Engineer to join its Flood, Coast and Environment team. The team delivers and manages critical infrastructure projects across the water sector, helping to protect communities, improve environmental resilience, and support sustainable water management.

As a Graduate Civil Engineer, you will join an experienced team of engineers and technical specialists, contributing to a diverse range of projects across flood risk management, coastal engineering, and the wider water and environmental sectors. Based in one of our regional offices, you will work closely with local engineering teams, with opportunities to contribute to projects nationwide. The ability to travel to client offices and project sites is essential.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to develop their technical knowledge, gain practical engineering experience, and work towards professional qualification through an accredited graduate development programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver assigned packages of work within agreed budgets and timescales, ensuring client requirements are met.
  • Develop an understanding of project scope, contractual obligations, and potential changes to project requirements.
  • Understand and interpret client briefs, including fundamental and performance requirements.
  • Undertake feasibility assessments, options appraisals, and outline and detailed engineering design.
  • Manage workloads effectively across multiple projects, balancing competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and accurate technical deliverables appropriate to the intended audience.
  • Work collaboratively with Engineering Managers, Project Managers, Regional Delivery Directors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the successful delivery of multidisciplinary projects through effective communication, practical problem-solving, and sound engineering judgement.

About You

This opportunity is ideally suited to a recent Civil Engineering or Water and Environmental Management graduate who is keen to build a career in the water sector and develop the knowledge, experience, and competencies required to achieve professional qualification.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering from an ICE-accredited university, or a relevant equivalent qualification.
  • Good A-level grades in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects and/or Geography.
  • An ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • A genuine interest in water, flood risk management, coastal engineering, and environmental projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, and meet project deadlines.
  • Creative and practical thinking, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective planning, organisational, and time-management abilities.
  • A proactive and methodical approach to problem-solving, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Strong computer literacy; knowledge of AutoCAD and GIS would be advantageous.
  • A commitment to continuous learning, professional development, and career progression.
