Construction Site Supervisor
Location: Site-based – UK
Contract: Permanent, full-time
The Vacancy
At Binnies, we’re continuing to grow our construction and Design & Build teams across the UK, and we’re looking for experienced Construction Site Supervisors to join us.
If you enjoy being hands-on, supporting your team and making sure work is delivered safely and to a high standard, this could be a great opportunity for you.
As a Construction Site Supervisor, you’ll play an important role in the day-to-day delivery of our projects. Working closely with the Site Manager and wider project team, you’ll help coordinate people, materials and activities on site, keeping work moving and making sure everyone understands what needs to be done.
Experience in water, wastewater, utilities or infrastructure would be particularly useful, especially if you’ve worked around live or operational sites. However, we’re also interested in hearing from people with transferable construction experience who can bring the right skills and attitude to the role.
At Binnies, how we deliver is just as important as what we deliver. Our ENGAGED culture is built around teamwork, respect, inclusion and continuous improvement. We want people who lead by example, look out for one another and take pride in doing a good job.
About the Role
As Construction Site Supervisor, you’ll support the Site Manager by overseeing construction activities on site and helping ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required standards.
Your responsibilities will include:
Supervising site activities: Coordinate day-to-day construction work in line with the programme, approved drawings and agreed methods of work.
Keeping people safe: Make sure safe systems of work are followed, risks are managed and relevant health and safety requirements are met.
Coordinating the workforce: Work with operatives, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure people, plant, materials and equipment are available when needed.
Managing site interfaces: Help coordinate access, work areas, permits and activities, including around live or operational sites where required.
Supporting quality: Carry out checks and inspections, follow Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and report defects or quality concerns promptly.
Working from approved information: Ensure teams have the correct drawings, specifications and construction information, raising any discrepancies or technical queries through the appropriate channels.
Monitoring progress: Keep track of daily activities, productivity and progress, highlighting any delays, risks or issues to the Site Manager.
Maintaining site records: Keep accurate records of daily activities, briefings, inspections, labour, plant and progress.
Working as one team: Build strong relationships with Site Management, Engineering, SHEQ, Design, Commercial, MEICA, Commissioning, clients and supply-chain partners.
Supporting specialist activities: Maintain awareness of temporary works, lifting operations, excavations and permit systems, escalating matters requiring specialist competence or formal appointment.
Protecting the environment: Help ensure environmental controls are followed and support sustainable ways of working.
Supporting project completion: Assist with snagging, commissioning, handover and site demobilisation.
Sharing ideas: Contribute to lessons learned and identify practical ways to improve safety, quality and productivity.
You’ll be an important link between the plans for the project and the people carrying out the work, helping everyone stay informed, organised and focused on delivering the best possible results.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone with practical construction experience who can confidently supervise site activities, communicate clearly and bring people together.
To be considered for the role, you’ll need:
SSSTS or a higher recognised site safety management qualification.
An appropriate CSCS card for the role.
Relevant experience in construction supervision.
A good understanding of CDM requirements, safe systems of work and construction risk management.
The ability to read and work from drawings, specifications and approved construction information.
Good communication and coordination skills, with the confidence to lead by example.
The ability to manage daily site activities, work interfaces and competing priorities.
Good organisational skills and the ability to maintain accurate site records using relevant project systems.
Just as importantly, you’ll be someone who takes responsibility, works well with others and understands the importance of safety, quality and teamwork on site.
Your Leadership Style Matters
At Binnies, we want our Site Supervisors to help create a positive working environment where people feel supported and can do their best work.
Our ENGAGED behaviours are central to how we work, and you’ll help bring them to life by:
Leading by example and encouraging safe working practices.
Treating everyone with respect and building positive working relationships.
Making sure people understand what’s expected of them and feel comfortable raising concerns.
Listening to the workforce and valuing their knowledge and experience.
Supporting and encouraging operatives, technicians, apprentices and less experienced colleagues.
Recognising good work and dealing with issues fairly and constructively.
Working collaboratively with the Site Manager, wider project team, clients and supply chain.
Staying calm and solution-focused when plans change or challenges arise.
Sharing knowledge, good practice and lessons learned to help everyone improve.
Desirable Skills and Experience
The following would be an advantage, although not all are essential:
Experience in the water or wastewater industry, including treatment works, pumping stations or other live operational assets.
Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS) qualification or relevant temporary works experience.
Awareness of lifting operations and appointed-person responsibilities.
First Aid at Work qualification.
EUSR National Water Hygiene or other relevant water-industry accreditation.
Awareness of NEC contracts.
Experience using digital site management, field reporting or Common Data Environment (CDE) systems.
A relevant Level 3 or Level 4 construction supervision qualification, NVQ or equivalent.
Experience with permit-to-work systems, excavations, isolations and other higher-risk construction activities.
Training and Onboarding
We want you to feel confident and supported in your role. Following appointment, you’ll complete the relevant Binnies induction, client and project-specific training.
Depending on your project and responsibilities, this may include:
Health, safety, environmental and quality (HSEQ) training.
Information security and compliance training.
Mental health awareness.
Permit-system training.
Familiarisation with digital project platforms, including CDE and BIM systems.
Project-specific competency assessments and any required role authorisations.
Career Development
We want to help our people build their skills and develop their careers.
This role could provide a pathway into opportunities such as General Foreman, Senior Site Supervisor or Site Manager, with the potential to progress into wider construction leadership roles.
Your development will depend on your experience, competence and career goals, supported by relevant training and opportunities to gain experience across our projects.
Why Join Binnies?
